Hargreaves in medical stunner at Etihad Stadium

Owen Hargreaves in on the verge of a shock move to Manchester City, as several media outlets report the former Manchester United midfielder is having a medical at the Etihad Stadium.

If the rumours are true, the move would quash a summer of speculation linking Hargreaves with the likes of Stoke and West Brom – and potentially give the former England anchorman a last chance to revive his international career.

It has been reported that West Brom had offered the Canadian-born defensive midfielder a contract, but that Hargreaves had turned it down in the hope of receiving an offer from a more illustrious club.

Hargreaves, 30, has made just appearance for United at senior level since late 2009 – lasting the first five minutes of a Premier League match with Wolves last November before hobbling down the tunnel. Although he was severely hampered by injury in four years at Old Trafford, the £17 million signing did make several notable contributions to Manchester United’s recent success – scoring the winner from a free kick in a memorable Premier League clash with Arsenal and slotting home a penalty in the shoot-out which won United the 2008 Champions’ League title.
